Exhibition

From 4 May to 19 June 2013 in the display rooms of the Ospitale venue in Rubiera, Reggio Emilia, alongside the exhibition Welfare Space Emilia, the MEDEBACH. Photographs 1979-1983 exhibition was staged, opened in the presence of the artist and director Gabriele of Die Photographische Sammlung /SK Stiftung Kultur, Cologne, Conrath-Scholl.

The photographic research of Petra Wittmar, produced between 1979 and 1983, consists of some 50 black & white photographs, is a study on the little town of Medebach, with shots of the houses, streets, squares and details of the landscape, as well as interior photographs reflecting the lives of its inhabitants.

When, in the 1970s, a long period of profound change and modernisation began to take place, new standardised building regulations and new ideas led to phenomena of nostalgic backlash in the town, coupled with a sense of provincial individualism, visible in the deep-seated aesthetic and cultural divide that may be seen in the images of the research. Catalogue published by Steidl.

Petra Wittmar was born in 1955 in Medebach and lives in Essen, Germany.

In collaboration with Die Photographische Sammlung / SK Stiftung Kultur, Cologne.
